The City of Sint-Niklaas is testing, from Monday 3 June to Tuesday 15 October 2024, new traffic measures to make the school environment of the Vogelkeswijk safer and healthier. By working with COMPAIR, the city wants to know how effective these measures have been. Have they resulted in traffic displacement? Has air quality improved in the target location?
Experiment
10 local residents have been measuring traffic in and around the Vogelkeswijk since 4 March, using a smart traffic sensor called Telraam. In addition, the Flemish Environment Agency (VMM) attached solar-powered OnePlanet air quality sensors to four light posts to measure nitrogen dioxide (NO2). For comparative purposes, air measurements started 3 months before the new traffic measures were introduced, and lasted for 3 additional months during the trial period.
